So what is VAULTING anyway?

I am one of the lucky participants on the Oak Hills Vaulting Team. Often, when I mention this little tidbit about my life, people exclaim "Oh! it that where you jump with a pole?!" and I feel the need to explain myself:

"Vaulting is a unique and growing sport that combines gymnastics and dance on a moving horse. It's a wonderful way to develop coordination, balance, strength, and creativity"
American Vaulting Association

As a dressage enthiusiast (I will explain Dressage in another post, if it so pleases you, my fellow blog readers) I have learned that balance is key to being "one" with you're equine partner. So, as soon as I finished my degree at BYU and could spare two more hours a week, I decided to join the vaulting team at Oak Hills Stable.

Other than the joy of getting dressed up in colorful spandex (just kidding :) I love that this sport includes music. For a show coming up this summer, I am choreographing a vaulting dance that will be performed to "The Call" from Chronicles of Narnia. It's a beautiful song, I would highly recommend a listen.

So if there are any of you out there looking to improve you're coordination and have alot of fun, while also being able to ride horse, vaulting is for you!
