By doing so, several things would be able to emerge. A) Duane would be able to force himself to see other parts of life that are otherwise unseen. B) Duane would be able to shift his paradigm to a more balanced view of computer usage and C) Duane would make Kelty very, very happy.
Here is the suprise, though. At first I was skeptical of this plan. How would we do our banking? What if we needed to. . . get directions? Order contacts? Talk with family on skype? What would happen?! Would the world implode?! These were serious questions!!!

Luckily, Duane connected with his leadership self and patiently explained the caveats to this plan: If he needed to do anything on-line after work hours, he could ask me to complete the task for him.
And I couldn't be happier. Since Wednesday, Duane has been able to complete some very foundational life goals: Making a mission statement, thinking deeply about his life's direction, organizing books that are still in boxes, talking with his wife (moi) about important issues with upcoming changes (like, a child coming into our family). What a great exercise this has been, and we are surviving!! Therefore, I have decided to publish to the online world my declaration:
I challenge all computer enthusiasts to attempt this brave task! It will only serve you and your family in the end. It does not have to be indefinite - try it for two weeks in the evenings. Have a spouse or loved one get online if you need it during your "fast", and see the world anew! If Duano-braino can do it. . . you can too!
See a little less of this:

And more of this:

Now, stop reading this and get off your computer - it's not too late! (ironic, isn't it, that I had to say this on a blog? C'est-la-vie)

Go Duane! This is a brilliant idea. When I travel, I choose to be unplugged. It's a form of fasting.
We need to get GROUNDED in our REAL worlds. Our unplugged real worlds. My daily hikes in the canyon help my to BE PRESENT.
Thanks for the update. Created virtually. OH, the irony!!!
Love, Mom
Congrats! That's absolutely wonderful! I agree... reality is a fast-fading commodity and should be treasured.
Oh, I love it. Arian took our laptop to Canada so I've been partially fasting too. There are limited things I can do on our office computer. Oh, it has been so nice. This post is awesome!
Wow Kelty. I admire you & Duane for taking this on. Question for you -- by "computer fasting" do you mean the iPhone too ?? I could turn my laptop off for days and not miss it. BUT . . . you'd have to pry my iPhone out of my clenched fists to get me to give that up, which is really sad, I know. Best to you though!
sounds great! i would LOVE to do this if i didn't have a business to run! we, i am afraid, will be bringing our laptop with us... sashi
