Talk about a fabulous experience with gormet cooking and good company. Our instructors name was Quincy, pictured below. (he was very nice, and made sure I didn't accidentally poke holes in people while I was trying to use the knives)

Duane and I sipped our Cider (with herbs and spices and all sorts of goodies floating in it) while our friends enjoyed their red wine, and the menu (which we all had a chance to cook with with a hands on chef leading the way) was fabulous, to say the least.
Rum Spiked Apple Cider
Crab fritters with Tarragon Aioli
Mini Beef Tenderloin Sandwiches with Horseradish Cream
Potato, Rosemary and Fontina Tart
Twice-baked baby potatoes with Bacon and Truffle

WOAH! I didn't even half these foods existed! My tastebuds were very happy with the end products.

I'd say even better than the food was getting to know our neighbors:

From Left to right: Ken and his wife Barbara (Ken was a pilot and Barbara a stewardess when they met) Ceille (our sweet neighbor next door) Ken and Sandy (our hosts for the evening, they met when they were ages 12 and 13!) and. . . those other people :)
The chopping block is located in the historic "Mercantile Mart" in Chicago

The Mercantile Mart has an amazing history, here are a few facts if you are interested. If you come to Chicago and go through the "Architectural Water Boat Tour" one of the stops along the way is the Mercantile where you see the huge bronze statues out front.
"The Merchandise Mart opened on Monday, May 5, 1930, six months into the Depression. In 1945, ownership of The Mart passed from Marshall Field and Company to Joseph P. Kennedy, former ambassador to Great Britain and father of the 35th president. In 1953, Kennedy established the Merchant's Hall of Fame, its purpose "to immortalize outstanding American merchants." Those inducted into the institution are represented in eight bronze busts, four times life size that rise up from pillars on the river side of the plaza to face the building. "

Nowadays, The Mart is packed with showrooms that display everything from drawer handles to complete kitchen sets. It was really fun to walk through.

Here is Duane with Barbara :) At one of the kitchen displays

What a fun way to spend Tuesday night! Thank you Ken and Sandy.
